Auditions for "Private Lives"
Eastbound Theatre, a division of the Milford Fine Arts Council, will be holding auditions for the first show of its 14th season, to be directed by Chris Peterson: “Private Lives,” an “intimate comedy in three acts” written by the inimitable Noel Coward. Private Lives, an “intimate comedy in three acts” and Noel Coward's most celebrated comedy, sets two newlyweds -- who are former lovers -- on adjoining terraces during their respective honeymoons in the resort town of Deauville, France. New love is no match for the fireworks of their past relationship as verbal sparring and comedic dexterity begin to flash and spark. Coward is at his best in this brilliant examination of what is public and what is private, what is past and what is present. There are available roles for 3 women and 2 men. Actors will read from the script.
Auditions will be held on Sunday, August 12 and Monday, August 13 at 7 PM at Milford’s Center for the Arts, 40 Railroad Avenue South, Milford, CT. "Private Lives" will run from Friday, October 5, through Sunday, October 21, 2007. For more information, contact the Milford Center for the Arts at 203-878-6647 or online at www.milfordarts.org. The cast includes 3 women and 2 men. The character descriptions are as follows, please keep in mind that British dialects or proper English are a must.
Elyot Chase (30's) He is a witty man. He had a dry and sarcastic sense of humor. He also has an ego about him, although it's clear he uses it as a defense mechanism. The only person he seems to show any genuine emotion with is Amanda.
Amanda Prynne (30's) Strong, intelligent and well spoken woman. She has a sense of sarcasm and humor about her. She has a tough exterior but that's only to protect a vulnerable inner self that Elyot can crack easily.
Victor Prynne (30's) Amanda’s new husband. He is compassionate, sophisticated, honest and extremely boring. He means well but makes it very clear why Amanda would leave him.
Sibyl Chase (20's) Elyot’s new wife. Young and naive to the world. It's obvious that she got married because it was the socially acceptable thing to do and has no idea what the meaning of responsibility is. She's also very dramatic and emotional.
Louise (20-30's) She is Amanda's maid in Paris. She has some interesting commentary in Acts II & III...in French of course.
