What is the Letters group? Who are these people who meet every second Wednesday of the month? There seems to be some shroud of mystery surrounding this small group of people. Letters, what does that mean? Letters, according the Webster’s dictionary, are written/printed symbols representing the sounds of speech; literary learning. This title was created for this group by the late Emma Blanche, one of the founding members.
We learn from each other in sharing our written word, whether it is poetry, essays, short stories, novelettes, or chapters of books. We critique the works brought to the table and help each other improve our writing skills. Suggestion on changes to a written piece can be accepted or rejected; it’s a matter of personal opinion. Also, we share information about authors we enjoy or just discovered, and share our favorite poetry.
The Letters Group is also responsible for overseeing the operation of the National Poetry Contest and the publishing of the MFAC publication, High Tide, every year - from selecting judges, tabulating the results and choosing from the submissions the winners and the one who will be published in High Tide. It’s a lot of hard work but well worth the effort for the finished product. So, whether you’re a poet, write short stories, novels or novellas, or you’re talented in other writing areas, such as, proof reading, typing & laying out manuscripts, you are welcom to the Letters Group.
What is the Letters Group? It is a gathering of people who enjoy all facets of literary learning of the written word.
