Frieda Howling was born in Munich, Germany and she came to the US in 1934, settling in New York as a young teen. She obtained her Fine Arts degree at Douglas College (now Rutgers University). As an artist, she had a profound passion for knowledge and discovery. She wrote a book titled, The Development of Contemporary Art. Howling was inspired by Abstract Expressionists before her, and her works include abstract oils, black and white lino prints, box constructions, and assemblages.

Howling’s work reflects her life’s journey - events, discoveries, and encounters. Her family is excited to honor her journey through this special exhibit at the MAC. For more information call 203.878.6647.
