In 2011, John and Roberto found themselves working together at a start-up market research company. They soon found out they had crossed paths before at a local stand-up comedy competition.

John recalled, “Oh yeah, the guy that won was really funny.”
Roberto responded, “That was me.”

And so a bromance was ignited over a shared love of all things stand-up comedy. After open mic commiseration, tales of bombed sets, and workshopping punchlines, John and Roberto realized they wanted to do more than just tell their own jokes. They wanted to build an organized community for stand-ups of all levels in CT, NY, and neighboring areas. After a short run with a 2012 local series in CT, they knew there was potential but the location would be key.

Enter the MAC In the summer of 2018, John was invited see a play in downtown Milford at the train station.

As soon as he stepped inside the theater he said, “They have to do comedy here.”

Fast forward to 2022, after starting families, surviving a global pandemic, and an exodus from California, John and Roberto were both again in Connecticut. John reached out to the MAC with the idea for a stand-up series bringing NYC and CT talent together and brought Roberto back in for another chance at building the community they envisioned a decade ago.
